Carrizo Plain National Monument

I head out to the Carrizo Plain National Monument several times a year. It's one of my favorite places to photograph for landscapes and wildlife. Also known as "California's Serengeti" for its herds of Tule elk and pronghorn antelope and its throng of endangered species, the Carrizo Plain is the last of California's historic grasslands. It's also one of the best places in the state for spring wildflowers. Below is a selection of my favorite images photographed since 2006.
